Brigitte Doering’s Blue Bird Studio is surrounded by rainforest on Tamborine Mountain, which makes her appreciate a creative life in harmony with Nature.
For more than 30 years she has been experimenting with a wide range of different materials, such as ash, varnish, wood stain and pigments, earth and also found objects including plant residue or discarded objects.
Natural resources and how we handle them are the manifestation of her work, sending signals as a recommendation to the observer to be aware of the environment as a precious and threatened gift. She was always fascinated by 3-D work, which shows in her interest in making sculptures in different materials and sizes.
When she is working on artworks that are messy, she works outdoors on her verandah and in her garden.
Tmac acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands we operate on, the Wanggerriburras people and pay my respects to elders past, present and emerging.
